The main components of a vacuum cooler (1/2)

1. Vacuum chamber

The sizes of vacuum chamber must be suitable enough to maintain the batch and work gaps for each cycle to allow possible future changes in stacking of serious pallets or pile sizes. We offer a range of different sizes of vacuum chambers (they can be customized, actually) that can accommodate single or double rail conveyor systems. Any combination of batch and tray size can be designed in our system. The door type can be automatic (hydraulic wing door or side-sliding door).

More important, the vacuum chamber shall be hard and strong enough to bear frequent and huge pressure differences between standard atmospheric pressure (outside) to vacuum condition (inside).

2. Vacuum pump

Vacuum pump is used for the initial evacuation from the chamber, from atmospheric pressure to the flash point of the water. After reaching the flash point, the performance of the pump is limited by the cooling system. In general, we will adjust the size of the vacuum pump to 5-8 minutes to reach the flash point. The type of pump that is commonly used is the design of the oil seal type.

3. Refrigeration equipment

Once the pressure reaches the flash point, water begins to evaporate quickly from the surface of the product. It is this evaporation that achieves cooling. In a machine that cools, for example, 1000 kg of product per cycle, 1,860 m3 of steam will be produced and pumped out from the chamber. This is too much for vacuum pump to handle, so a “water catcher” is installed in the chamber to re-condense the vapor to become water; The refrigeration unit is actually like a vacuum pump. The size of the refrigeration unit has a significant impact on the cooling cycle time. In general, a cycle time of 20-30 minutes.
